How all these Hong Kong micro:bit frenzy started?

Hong Kong has been known for its international outlook and has always been on the lookout for the very latest in technology in education.   micro:bit is the hottest coding and STEM solution our schools are adopting these days since 2016.

The uptake has been completely ground-up:   initiated by teachers and principals, and not from the typical top-down policy route.

micro:bit - brought to Hong Kong by teachers, for teachers

It all started with the 2016 Hong Kong delegation to the BETT show.   micro:bit has stolen the limelight as the most sought after solution that teachers “wanted” to bring back to Hong Kong.     Since August 2016, micro:bit’s uptake by schools has taken an exponential growth rate, and continues to grow steadily, covering both primary and secondary schools, across different subject areas.
ETC Educational Technology Connection (HK) Ltd has been working with the Association of IT Leaders in Education since BETT 2016 to bring both the micro:bit and micro:bit trainings to Hong Kong since August 2016.    1 million British Years 7 (age 11) students received their micro:bit for free from the BBC in May 2016.
With the committed and ongoing efforts of the Association of IT Leaders in Education,  hundreds to thousand of Hong Kong teachers have been undergoing continued trainings in the use of micro:bit in the classroom and after-school activities.

About the micro:bit:

For those who are not familiar with the micro:bit, hear what Zach Shelby, ex-CEO, micro:bit said in 30 minutes to Hong Kong teachers, at ETC Educational Technology Connection booth @ Learning and Teaching Expo 2017, Hong Kong.

Zach approved our request to showcase Hong Kong school projects at BETT 2018 - a big thank you on behalf of our schools!
