Polar Heart Rate Exercise Sensor

datalogging sensors

Data Harvest

Product Description

Wireless connectivity between the sensor and the data logger make this an ideal sensor to monitor heart rate during exercise.

This sensor consists of a belt that is worn around the ribcage against the skin, and a receiver that is connected to the logger. The transmitter can be up to 80 cm from the receiver.

Teaching applications:
  • Changes to heart rate in exercise
  • Recovery rates.
  • Baroreceptor reflex
  • Variation in populations

Extension and advanced ideas:
  • Long term effect of exercise

The Polar® Heart Rate Exercise Sensor monitors the electrical signal of a person’s heartbeat. This signal is measured at the surface of the skin by two electrodes that are embedded in the Polar® transmitter belt. The belt is worn across the lower part of the chest, around the ribcage against the skin (under clothing). The heart rate information is transmitted wirelessly to the Heart Rate receiver through a low frequency electromagnetic field. This will allow heart rate to be measured even during exercise. The receivers will pick-up signals from the closest Polar transmitter source, and that includes other transmitter belts if within range. Keep a distance of at least 2 metres between different Polar Heart sensor users. The Polar transmitter belt is a non-coded type T31. The fastest speed that data can be captured is 50 Hz (20 ms).

Heart Rate pulse (remote sensing) (Biology (14-18) eBook)
The Polar Heart rate sensor monitors the electrical changes in the body that are created by the heart and produces a heart rate. For more active heart rate measurements.

Polar heart rate training (Science in Sport (11-18) eBook)
The polar method of linking heart monitors is used hear to create a method of monitoring changes to heart rate before , during and after activity.
