This DVD provides an audio-visual guide for teachers and parents.
It demonstrates how to form and pronounce the 44 phonemes that children have to learn to recognise in order to decode words when learning to read English.
An introduction by the author of the series, Ruth Miskin, explains how children can be taught the sounds logically.
Children and adults are shown in close-up, pronouncing each phoneme while the corresponding grapheme (letter) is shown alongside on the Read Write Inc Speed Sounds card.
Sounds are grouped in easy-to learn sets:
The video concludes with a section to allow children to copy and practise the sounds.
