A thumb Joystick which is very similar to the joysticks on PS2 controllers which also has a select button that is actuated when the joystick is pressed down.
This is a joystick that is very similar to the joysticks on PS2 (PlayStation 2) controllers. Directional movements are simply two potentiometers - one for each axis. Pots are ~10k each.
This joystick also has a select button that is actuated when the joystick is pressed down.
The diagram below shows the pin outs for this part.
The screen shot below shows one possible way of coding the joystick to work with the microbit. The x and y numbers were obtained by first using the map function to read and display actual joystick movements. These numbers were then used in the code below.
