Product Description

Thymio is an open-source educational robot designed by researchers from the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, Switzerland), in collaboration with ECAL, (University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switzerland) and produced by Mobsya, a nonprofit association whose mission is to offer comprehensive, engaging STEAM journeys to learners of all ages.

Thymio is functional out of the box! Turn it on by pressing the center button, and discover the six pre-programmed behaviours. These are always available in the robot. Once you have played with those, program your own behaviour through one of the available programming languages. Just install Thymio Suite on your computer and get started!

A ready-to-use robot

Thymio comes out of its box already assembled so you can start it in a few seconds. With 6 preprogrammed behaviors, you can find out what it can do in no time. Follow a line, avoid obstacles or follow your hand, Thymio already knows how to demonstrate its talents.

Programming with images or blocks

With the Thymio VPL and VPL3 interfaces, you can program Thymio with image blocks in an intuitive way. By combining events and actions, you will change the behavior of Thymio in a few clicks.

Scratch and Blockly offer the widely used and tried system of programming with blocks, allowing for complex behaviours without the constraint of typing and minding the syntax

Advanced uses

A Python interface brings you to the next level with Thymio. University-level experiments are conducted, programmed either in Python or Aseba, thanks to the complete Aseba framework and the Python module

Thymio AI

Discover the principle of Machine Learning, Supervised learning and Reinforcement learning with a comprehensive set of 5 activities. Each activity guarantees an immersive interaction between teachers and students. Those activities were meticulously crafted by our pedagogical experts who designed separate booklets for teachers and students.

A scalable and resourceful robot

Thanks to the preprogrammed behaviours and the many programming interfaces available in Thymio Suite (VPL, VPL3, Scratch, Blockly, Aseba Studio) or through complementary software (Python, ROS), Thymio can guide your journey from absolute beginner to understanding complex robotic alogrithms. To lead you through these interfaces, there are a lot of pedagogical resources developed for this little robot.
